NICU Nurse
Job Description
The NICU Nurse provides specialized nursing care to premature, critically ill, and medically fragile newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
The role involves continuous monitoring of newborns, administering prescribed treatments, and supporting neonatal medical procedures.
The nurse works closely with neonatologists, pediatricians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
The position also requires effective communication with parents and families while maintaining high standards of neonatal safety and infection control.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide direct nursing care to premature and critically ill newborns in the NICU.
Continuously monitor vital signs, oxygen saturation, temperature, and other clinical parameters.
Administer medications, intravenous fluids, nutrition, and treatments according to medical orders.
Operate and monitor incubators, ventilators, infusion pumps, and other neonatal equipment.
Assist physicians during neonatal procedures and emergency interventions.
Maintain accurate nursing records, patient observations, and treatment documentation.
Follow infection prevention and control procedures specific to neonatal care.
Assess newborns for changes in condition and promptly report abnormalities to physicians.
Educate and support parents regarding newborn care, treatment, and feeding practices.
Participate in emergency response, resuscitation, and stabilization of critically ill newborns.
