Job Description

Bloomberg News is looking for an ambitious reporter to help drive our coverage of energy in the Middle East. The extraordinary geopolitical upheaval has underscored the region’s importance as the epicenter of the global energy story, reshaping markets worldwide, threatening supply routes and driving oil-price volatility. Oil and gas are not only the economic backbone in the Gulf, but also central to diplomacy, security and politics during one of the most consequential periods in decades. The Middle East will further influence the energy world as nations rebuild from the war, frame OPEC production and policy, and companies boost LNG investments both at home and abroad.

You will be expected to bring or develop a deep network of sources and extensive subject expertise, to deliver impactful scoops, insightful analysis and deeply reported features that lift the lid on the key companies, personalities and trades across the energy landscape.

This role can be based in Riyadh, Doha or Dubai.

We’ll trust you to:
Build and maintain sources across the most important energy companies, traders, policymakers and investors active in the Middle East
Break news and deliver scoops that Bloomberg readers care about
Collaborate closely with colleagues across teams and geographies to write the biggest, agenda-setting stories that connect the dots on the interplay between energy, business, geopolitics and finance
Help contribute to our authoritative coverage of OPEC and OPEC+ and how the group’s decisions impact global energy markets
Be an expert on the Middle East energy beat, using your deep knowledge and sourcing to spot trends and deliver the most impactful information to our readers
You’ll need to have:
At least five years of experience as a reporter covering financial news
A proven track record of cultivating sources and breaking news
Strong writing skills, with the ability to write quickly, clearly and accurately under deadline pressure
We’d love to see:
Fluency in Arabic is preferred
Ability to translate complex issues into clear, compelling journalism for a global audience
Prior reporting experience in the Middle East or another geopolitically sensitive region
A clear understanding of how energy intersects with geopolitics, fiscal policy and regional power dynamics
The confidence to lead coverage during major market-moving events and periods of volatility
