Job Overview
As a Merchant Onboarding and Monitoring Specialist, you will be responsible for vetting, onboarding, and continuously monitoring merchants to ensure compliance with regulatory, operational, and risk-related standards. You will play a key role in protecting the platform from fraudulent, non-compliant, or high-risk activities.
Key Responsibilities
Merchant Onboarding:
- Evaluate merchant applications and conduct due diligence (KYC/KYB/AML checks).
- Verify business documents, legal entity status, and compliance with applicable laws.
- Assess risk profiles based on industry, product, geography, and transaction volume.
- Work cross-functionally with compliance, sales, legal, and tech teams to onboard merchants smoothly and efficiently.
- Ensure adherence to card networks (Visa/Mastercard) and acquiring bank requirements.
Ongoing Monitoring
- Monitor merchant transactions and behavior for suspicious activity, fraud trends, and compliance breaches.
- Review chargebacks, refund ratios, and dispute trends, flagging high-risk merchants proactively.
- Conduct periodic re-verification and compliance audits of onboarded merchants.
- Maintain up-to-date merchant records and ensure timely updates based on changes in business operations.
Requirements
- 2–4 years of experience in merchant onboarding, risk management, or compliance, preferably in a payment processor or MOR environment.
Skills
- Strong understanding of payment processing, card schemes, and acquiring/issuing systems.
- Familiarity with fraud detection and transaction monitoring.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management capabilities.
