Managed the modernisation projects to be developed by the Global Projects department at the company European facilities, for a total budget of 800 million USD implementing project controls frameworks to track costs, risks, and schedule performance .  managed design, construction and installation of a LNG jetty on the river Rhine at the Wesseling facility  implemented various carbon reduction measures at all European facilities to meet EU 2030 CRP objectives  managed the design of the plant updates to replace Butene-1 with Hexene-1 as co-monomer for the production of HDPE at the Wesseling facility  managed the development of coils of improved efficiency for the furnaces of the OM6 ethylene cracker in Wesseling  managed the migration of the ICSS for the site of Wesseling from Rockwell to Emerson Delta V  Successfully implemented risk based decision-making strategies, reducing project overruns and enhancing scope definition. Successfully steered a number of projects connected with turnarounds at various facilities to optimise SOW and developed and optimized work breakdown structures (WBS) and cost control structures to streamline project execution to achieve fit for purpose solutions in the required timeframe and budget.

Managed the EPC for the extension of the LNG terminal in Swinoujscie, Poland for Gaz Terminal Polska, applying schedule optimization techniques to ensure the timely execution of the design, construction and installation of:  a second jetty, a new LNG tank and regasification modules to increase import and production capacity  a bunkering module and related offloading point to supply LNG to vessels  export modules to truck and railroad Managed contract administration and change management, negotiating variations and claims with EPC contractors. Developed progress tracking dashboards integrating earned value management (EVM) for better financial oversight.

Managed the EPCIC contracts of the Arctic LNG 2 project, consisting on three compression trains installed on the largest gravity base structures ever built.  Overall coordination of contracts to purchase materials and services from a number of international suppliers and subcontractors.  Established a robust project risk management plan, identifying and mitigating schedule and cost risks in the Arctic LNG 2 EPCIC project.  Led procurement strategy development, ensuring cost-effective sourcing and contract execution.  Integrated construction progress tracking tools, enhancing visibility into field operations and performance benchmarks.  Managing the field engineering and construction teams, ensuring timely delivery of the project, handling interfaces between consortium partners and own team.  Facilitating approval of transport methodology and extremely tight schedule of the completed facilities for 3000 km to the White Sea and their installation on the seabed.  Managing the specifics of an intensely evolving contract within the framework of a multi-party joint- venture with diverse stakeholder interests.

Managing the construction and installation of the NFE (North Field East) Offshore project, including eight wellhead platforms, their subsea systems, and relevant subsea pipeline and cable connections to the onshore infrastructure. Managing the project to design, build and install two offshore Sensor Tower Platforms and their integration into the National Security Shield of the State of Qatar.  Championed the extensive utilization of the Design One-Build Many concept, maximizing the use of SmartPlant tools to automatize the extraction of all configuration drawings for the various platform designs.  Chaired several workshops on various aspects of the construction and installation to verify and endorse their standing  Managed various third-parties in the verification of specific aspects of the design using agreed methodologies.  Defined and planned construction, transportation and installation methodologies and schedules in accordance with the overall project planning.  Verification and approval of relevant contractual and technical interface matrices and agreements with third parties.  Conducted in-depth reviews of bidders and critical vendors to ensure their capability and capacity to conduct the EPCI phase to company satisfaction in the expected time frame.  Managed the development of all technical chapters and exhibits for the ITT up to its issuing to bidders  Developed the bidders evaluation procedures  Chaired the bidders evaluation meetings  Consulted on the specificity of the supply requirements for long lead items to be novated to the EPC contractors.

Managed the de-bottlenecking of FPU Jangkrik, installed in Indonesian waters, to connect new wells from the Merakes field, and increase production from 450 to 750 MMSCFD.

Managed the technical side of the tender/FEED compiled by the joint venture between Technip, JGC and Fluor for the Rovuma LNG – Area 4 plant in Mozambique for ExxonMobil. The plant consisted of two LNG compression trains and all ancillary systems including power station, MEG, MOF, BOG, Jetty, LNG tanks, condensate tanks, and utilities. The project, initially developed as a competitive tender, developed as a full and detailed FEED to the point of developing construction methodologies and commissioning procedures for the complete plant, which were revised and approved by the undesigned prior to delivery to the client, and won the project EPC to the JV.

Managed the offshore side of the Cluster Westlich Adlergrund for 50-Hertz GmbH, aimed at connecting two wind turbine clusters to the German electric grid by means of five HVAC subsea cables.  Managed the development and update of pre and post-lay project documentation.  Coordinated the relationship with the client and maritime authorities.  Revised the compilation of vessel hiring specification to suit the varying conditions of the install- ation sites, and managed vessels and teams as appropriate.  Managed the handling and resolution of non-conformity reports regarding cable production and installation.  Managed the project technical interfaces, including crossing issues with gas pipeline NS2, and various other energized cables.  Recommended to project management changes in the scope of work structure as required.

Advising on the design of a class of five National Security Multi-mission Vessels (NSMV) for the US Maritime Administration. The ships will perform as training vessels for the cadets of the US Maritime Academy, and as disaster-relief ships in case of national emergencies.  Advising the client on the best design criteria and most reliable technical solutions to maximize the usability of the vessels in such diverse conditions.  Interfacing with the final client, Class and US Coast Guard to address contractual and statutory issues.  Recommending changes in the scope of work structure as required.

Managed a team of engineers framed within an Engineering and Project Management Team acting as client representative on the design, construction, and commissioning activities pertaining to the conversion of oil tanker Mare Adriacum to FPSO Cyrus, and its installation, and deputising for the Project Manager in his absence.  Advising the client on the most reliable technical solutions required to achieve a 25-years life without dry-docking projected for the vessel.  Providing indirect management for an EPC contractor force of 110 engineers and designers to ensure that design and construction were supplied with adequate capabilities, and reviewing their work to ascertain compliance with contractual documents, quality standards, and applicable rules with regard to all disciplines.  Providing indirect management of the shipyard construction engineering team of 30 engineers and designers  Managing all aspect of quality and safety relevant to the project  Managing change orders and monitoring EPC bids to ensure adherence to technical and project plans, and cost optimization Performing interface management functions both internal to the FPSO, and external towards the well-head platform in a difficult situation where the platform had already been fabricated out-of- spec and installed, and thus needed un-budgeted modifications to be compatible with the FPSO  Managing procurement and expediting of all mechanical and electrical packages  Recommending changes in the scope of work structure as required  Ensuring departmental adherence to financial, business and operational objectives by fostering cooperation between discipline managers, and close working relationship with project controls, planning and interface managers.  Reviewing and approving departmental key documents  Ensuring alignment in the adherence to standards between own team, client and EPC contractor  Planning workforce requirements for own team, and reviewing/approving EPC contractor estim- ates  Attending project kick-off and review meetings, vendor meetings, and engineering meetings, as required  Supervising the construction and installation  Managing the development of commissioning procedures and supervising their implementation.

Led the technical/economical side of the project from the initial economical evaluations through to FEED and basic design for a new build FPSO and associated subsea development and wellhead platforms, to be installed on the Yombo field, Congo. The project entailed production from a H2S-rich field through four wellhead platforms, and a gas import pipeline.  Advising the client on the most reliable technical solutions required to achieve a twenty-years life without dry-docking projected for the vessel  Assisting with selection of engineering contractors and shipyard with adequate capabilities  Managing two engineering contractors for a combined workforce of 65 persons, and reviewing their work to ascertain compliance with the applicable rules with regard to all disciplines  Managing interfaces with regard to the production systems located on three existing and two new wellhead platforms, and their supply via subsea cables  Managing all mechanical, electrical and instrumentation packages in cooperation with the pur- chasing department  Selecting equipment manufacturers based on previous project experience, and negotiating sup- ply of long lead items and main services for construction and commissioning

Steered a multi-disciplined team of engineers and designers in the FEED review, redrafting and approval, and in the subsequent development of an effective basic design for the conversion of a double hull Aframax tanker into FPSO Bukit Tua, and associated mooring, wellhead platform interfaces and tie ins, for M3NERGY-Petronas. The vessel has now been installed on the Bukit Tua field and is producing from an H2S-rich field. Achievements  Succeeded in training and using a workforce almost exclusively formed by local engineers despite the scarcity of local offshore experience

Led a multi-disciplined team of staff and contractors in the design of the conversion of two Aframax tankers to Modular Capture Vessels satisfying ABS and USCG requirements in the frame of the MWCS project for MWCC (a consortium of Anadarko, Apache, BHP Billiton, BP, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil, Hess, Shell and Statoil)  Design of the modifications to ship structures and marine systems  Addition of four retractable azimuth thrusters and relevant ancillary systems, to achieve DP Class 2 capability  Upgrade of the power generating capacity with the installation of four HV diesel-driven generators, and integration of the vessels existing gensets onto a common network.  Development of the safety case, definition of hazardous areas, and review of safety assessments  Revision and upgrade of the safety systems to comply with IMO MODU Code, including Fire&Gas, ESD/ICSS and firefighting systems. Chairing of HAZOP and HAZID reviews by client and Class  Chairing of the MWCS consortium lessons-learnt committee to determine measures applicable to the project  Management of the subsea interfaces Achievements  The first two ships combining the characteristics of a FPSO and a DP2 vessel  Resolved issues in accordance with USCG requirements and the company standards of 5 oil majors

Managed the interfaces between the contractors handling engineering, procurement and installation of Stage 3 (Ethane cracker, Polypropilene, LDPE, HDPE, U&O) of Borouge (ADNOC Group) petrochemical plant in Al Ruwais, UAE  Defined the interface matrix, established standard interface management procedures, and supervised the compilation of the interface register, ensuring timely resolution of queries for the various plant modules.  Conducted audits across the various contractors to ensure adherence to contractual documents and relevant standards, and uniformity of technical solutions and equipment across all of them.  Advised the project director on the technical impact of deviations and concession requests, formulating recommendations for their resolution.  Worked in strict cooperation with the process licensor (Borealis), and became the focal point for all non-process related HAZOP themes.

Assessed and completed the detailed design to Norsok standards for the DP3 heavy-lift pipelay and decommissioning vessel Pieter Schelte (now Pioneering Spirit) , including the redesign of part of the marine systems, rework of the safety case and the pipe-lay control system, and defining construction engineering packages with the shipyard. Achievements  The Pioneering Spirit is currently the largest pipe-lay vessel in the world, and the only existing platform decommissioning vessel able to remove topsides and jacket in a single journey, and is fitted with a DP system exceeding the requirements of Class 3.  The design review of the vessel required the study of multiple studies on decommissioning of the North Sea offshore platforms, that the ship had been designed to carry out, and that gave me invaluable information on the state-of-the-art concepts and operational procedures as envisaged by Oil Majors.

Responsible for providing solutions to multitude of issues that a vast range of clients, most of which owned, managed or operated fleets of heterogeneous types of offshore vessels in excess of 150 vessels, asked Noble Denton to resolve. This included FME(C)A reviews and related proving trials to confirm suitability of DP vessels of various types, as well as design reviews and appraisals, constructability and decommissioning studies, maintenance plans, and suitability and pre-purchase surveys, whilst managing construction and commissioning of projects across various regions. A list of the most significant and qualifying activities is below.  Managed CMIDs, incident investigations, pre-purchase and pre-charter surveys, periodic class surveys as well as providing technical support for the preparation of proposals and tenders for various clients in the UAE and abroad.  Provided project, construction, and commissioning management services for four DP2 AHTS/OSV built by Universal Shipyard, Yokohama and Niigata Shipbuilding, for Sanko Shipping  Provided technical support and construction supervision to the upgrade of two jackup drilling rigs in Mussafah, UAE, and to the owner of two DP2 Diver Support Vessels built at Dalian, China.  Design assessment of the marine systems and HV power generation for an FPSO under development at Wison Offshore in Nantong, China.  Managed the decommissioning and removal of FPSO Sevan Voyageur from the Shelley field, in the central UK North Sea.  Provided engineering support to the design of FSRU Toscana for SAIPEM, and performed successive surveys during the construction phase at Dubai Drydocks.  Performed the design review of machinery and marine systems for a class of LNG carriers for Qatargas.  Carried out design activities and appraisals of various levels of repairs and upgrades, throughout conversions, modifications and newbuilds of diverse types of offshore vessels.  Managed planning, project management and construction management support to dry-docking of the pipelay vessel Audacia for Allseas.  Performed as Asset Management Advisor to the Abu Dhabi Port Authority on the expansion of port facilities.  Carried out the design review of oil export systems to be installed on a new jetty at the Aramco refinery in Ras Tanura.  Performed technical, project management, and construction management support to McDermott for the refurbishment and upgrade of the marine and DP systems on their vessels DB50 and Agile.  Supervised the development and review of SIMOPS and ERP plans on behalf of various Operators and EPCs.  Provided engineering support and third-party assessment reporting to various incident investigations Achievements  Developed a broad working knowledge of marine warranty surveys and quality assurance  Managed at various levels a large number of shipbuilding projects of various size.

Managed the FEED and detailed design of electrical, control, instrumentation, and safety systems for a new- build DP2 deep-sea flexible pipelay vessel for Petrobras, with S-lay and J-lay systems, and ROVs fitted with a fully electric tensioning system. Conducted a FMEA review of the marine systems in order to assess their suitability to DP2 before submission to Class. Managed the interfaces between the shipyard and various equipment manufacturers. Achievements  Development and implementation of the first fully electric flexible pipe lay system with active front-end drives able to feed the recuperated energy into the vessel main electric network

Completed basic electrical, control and instrumentation system design to NORSOK standard for the conversion of ULCCs TI Asia and TI Africa to FSOs on behalf of Maersk Oil Qatar.

Managed the FEED and detailed design to NORSOK standard of electrical, instrumentation, telecoms and safety systems for the DP3 semi-submersible drilling platform Scarabeo 8 for ENI Norge.  Definition of basis of design, operating philosophies and technical specifications for all electrical, instrumentation, telecoms and safety systems.  Provided support to the design of the marine systems to attain compliance with Norsok and DP3 standard.  Management of the engineering team and review of their work to ascertain compliance with the applicable rules with regard to EIT and safety disciplines.  Managed the interfaces with suppliers of power generation, ship manoeuvring and drilling systems, and their integration in the ship electrical network and control systems.  Liaison with vendors to integrate owner-supplied VSDs and motors with drilling mechanical equipment.

Managed the FEED and detailed design of marine, topsides power generation and distribution systems for FPSO BC10 – Espirito Santo for Royal Dutch Shell - first FPSO driving & controlling high voltage ESPs.  Conducted HAZOP, HAZID, HAZAN, FMECA and SAFOP in collaboration with Shell. The vessel was due to operate on a field producing sour gas at high pressure/high temperature, and heavy crude.  Monitored MV and LV distribution and evaluated suppliers for MV static and rotating electro- mechanical equipment and switchgear  Managed the interfaces with the subsea part of the field development, including swivel and HV subsea pumps and VFDs  Coordinated the design review of vessel safety passive and active systems, in accordance to relevant rules, to the satisfaction of Class and Shell.

Directed all installation and commissioning activities for international projects in the steel industry, managing a yearly budget of several hundreds of millions Euro, and a multi-cultural staff of 70 employees and 250 consultants  Managed pre-commissioning, commissioning and delivery of various plants for flat and long products in Russia, Kazakhstan, India, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Vietnam, China, Sudan, Brazil, Chile, USA, Canada and Austria  Reviewed tenders and proposals for the installation and commissioning of systems ahead of client discussions and approval  Resolved directly crisis situations in remote locations through effective management of local and expat workforce, delivering projects on time and within budget.

Managed the electrical and safety team within the Technical Services Support Group of the Newbuilding Division, contributing to the successful design, construction and delivery of ten new and two converted passenger vessels, built across five different shipyards in Europe and Asia. In addition to my standard duties, below is a list of signatory activities of my tenure:  Development and management of the repair measures to be carried out on the Diamond Princess after the fire that severely damaged her three months before delivery.  Management of the review and amendment of contractual ship specifications for newbuilds after acquisition of Aida Cruises  Performed FMEA reviews on all new ship systems to ascertain their reliability in the framework of the company standards. Once the method was defined I contributed to the training of others to assist in compiling such reviews and interpret results correctly.  Management of the design and implementation of cold-ironing facilities in Canada and Alaska (US)  Management from conception to implementation of several EU-funded R&D projects aimed at developing automation of safety and navigation systems  Provision of project management, planning and technical support for the dry-docking of several company-owned vessels, including certificate renewals in support of the operations department.  Performance of company representative/project engineering functions during the construction of the Golden Princess, resolving all site queries and dealing with the installation of owner’s supplied equipment  Management of repairs and upgrades to various vessels during the guarantee period  Coordination of a study aimed at proving the feasibility, safety and efficiency of a dual-fuel LNG/low- sulphur MDO system to use on vessels bound to environmentally sensitive locations.  Provision of engineering support in the evaluation of the capability of various Asian shipyards to successfully build passenger vessels of acceptable standard  Contribution to the definition of technological requirements for the next class of vessels, currently being built by Fincantieri. Achievements  Conceived and developed a supervisory system providing a common graphical user interface for all safety sub-systems on board, known as Safety Management System (SMS), integrated by a Decision Support System, that has now become a standard in the industry and is being marketed under various names by the major players in the supply of marine automation systems, and adopted by all cruise companies.
